What happens to my cruise when I find out I am pregnant?

DEEDEE asked:

Hi.
I am overjoyed as I am pretty sure that I am finally pregnant. The trouble is that we have booked a Virgin cruise for October when I will be about 7 months pregnant and not allowed on the ship! They took a huge deposit off us - around £3000 to cover deposit for the ship, flights and hotel before take off and I am worried sick that we could lose all of this money. If so it doesn’t seem fair as I am happy to travel if the pregnancy is uncomplicated but they would not take me.
I can’t believe that I could be left high and dry for committing the crime of getting pregnant!
Would it just be a case of ‘tough’ and them running off with my cash?
I have looked at my holiday insurance (which is the deluxe version) and it excludes pregnancy!
It is really taking the shine off my good news!
Anyone know what happens?

Try calling your travel agent or the cruise line to see if you can reschedule the date. Most will allow you without penalty. You may incur fees re-booking the airline tickets though.

Get in touch with your travel agent or cruise line (whoever you booked with) now and explain that you are pregnant. The sooner you do it the better. They will let you know what the options are on either cancelling or going earlier (however, I think most cruise lines only let you onboard until week 12)

good luck - and regardless - congratulations to your good news

    Congratulations on your good news.

Now I’m afraid it’s time for the bad news.

It looks like all the cruise lines have changed their time limits for pregnant cruisers to the 24th week maximum. See link.

I’m only a stupid male but surely if you are pregnant now, in October you will be 8 months pregnant.
I can only suggest that you get in touch with Virgin very quickly and try and arrange something else or cancel your holiday. I’m not being mean, but if you have to cancel, the quicker you cancel the less money you are likely to lose.
You may be able to cancel just the cruise and use the flights as there is no restriction on pregnant women flying until the 35th week.
Talk to your TA or Virgin, I am sure that they will do all they can to accommodate you. Good luck.
