What is an average cruise liner? The majority of the newer ships can make between 20 and 24 knots. A knot is 1.15 mph if you want to do the math. If you’re asking about their average speed, it will be less than their top speed under most circumstances. It all depends on the ship’s design, mission, and schedule.

Well susan, the first two answers are about right. A new cruise liner will travel at normal sea speed at about 21-23 knots or around 28mph.
